SOUTHERN OHIO MEDICAL CENTER (SOMC) recently completed construction of the new Portsmouth Family Health Center at their South Campus, in Portsmouth, Ohio. As part of a select group of local contractors, West End Electric Company, Inc. was awarded the electrical contract. The project team constructed a 43,000 square foot, 3-story facility that includes: 

• First Floor: Urgent Care Services, CT Scan, X-Ray, MRI, Blood Draw, Lab, Ultrasound, Pharmacy, and 17ea. Exam/Treatment Rooms.

• Second Floor: Occupational Health Care, Blood Draw, Doctor & Staff Offices, 9ea. Exam/Treatment Rooms, and SOMC’s new State of the Art Data Center that processes the billing and payables for all of SOMC’s Medical Facilities and Operations.

• Third Floor:  Mechanical Equipment Rooms.

Serving as the project’s electrical and tele/data contractor, West End Electric Co., Inc. performed all site electrical work, power, lighting, fire alarm, tele/data, security, public address, installation of a 900 KW generator that provides emergency back-up power throughout the building, and an uninterrupted power system for the new data center and associated HVAC equipment.

While maintaining easy access to SOMC’s other important services at the South Campus, crews maintained a clean, well illuminated construction site and were able to complete the project within an accelerated 10-Month Construction period. 

Lighting inside and out of this beautiful facility is 99% LED, and consists of accent lighting outside and ample lighting inside, displaying an architecturally beautiful facility that enhances the neighborhood and provides vital medical services to the citizens of Portsmouth, Ohio and the surrounding communities.
